Putting the last pieces together

The day after tomorrow I will leave for Kenya. I have to-do lists which keeps me busy all day long with little things that needs to be organized before I leave. I’m trying to concentrate on the fact that I’ve got my visa and my passport which means that I will be able to enter the country. If I start to think too much about things that could be done it will only create unnecessary stress and more stress is the last thing I need at the moment.

I was a little bit cocky a few posts ago and said that I didn’t think I was going to get any travel fever, that I had already had my share. It was not true. I do have travel fever, I have travel fever of the kind that everything feels surreal. I can’t believe that I’m leaving on Thursday and that on Friday I will finally be in Kenya. It’s to strange to imagine.

In order to try to settle my mind a little bit I’m focusing on something one of my lecturers told us. He said that what inspired him to travel was sitting in a rickety plastic chair with a beer in his hand. Somehow the image that he described of himself sitting on that plastic chair somewhere in Tanzania (I think it was) got stuck in my mind. So that’s what I’m trying to focus on, plastic chair, beer in my hand, to finally celebrate the fact that I reached my destination.

I hope that the first days will treat me well, at least I hope for no disasters to happen. I doubt that I will have time to write before I leave and in that case, I’ll be back with a report on Friday where I will tell you all about my journey and how I arrived in Nairobi.

See you then!
